Advanced maternal age becomes a leading Cause of Preterm Births

In India, out of 2.7 crore babies born every year, 35 lakh babies are born premature. Medical professionals note an association between preterm birth and mother’s age. Advanced maternal age of more than 40 years increases the risk of preterm births. Preterm birth is leading cause of newborn deaths, and many preterm babies suffer from various disabilities like cerebral palsy, sensory deficits, learning disabilities and respiratory illnesses.
