New Delhi, April 23, 2021.
The farewell function for Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, who will retire on April 23, will be held via video conference in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. The virtual farewell will commence at 5 pm on Friday.
Justice NV Ramana will take charge as the 48th Chief Justice of India on Saturday. Last month, CJI Bobde had recommended Justice Ramana as his successor.
Senior advocate and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Vikas Singh said that due to the Covid-19 pandemic they were considering a virtual welcome for Justice Ramana. “We may take a decision in the next week,” added Singh.
For Justice Ramana, his oath-taking ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday is also likely to have limited attendance. The celebratory dinner usually organised by the lawyers is likely to be deferred.
