A film based on the brutal murder of tailor Kanhaiya Lal is set for release, with acclaimed actor Vijay Raaz portraying the titular role. The first official poster of the film was unveiled today, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a highly debated project. The film will arrive in theatres on June 27.
The film was announced on April 2 on social media with the caption, “Witness the story that needs to be told! #GyanvapiFiles: A Tailor’s Murder Story. In cinemas 27th June!
Kanhaiya Lal was killed in June 2022 in Udaipur by two assailants who beheaded him in broad daylight. The attackers later released a video confessing to the murder, claiming it was retaliation for a social media post in support of Nupur Sharma. Sharma, a former BJP spokesperson, had sparked controversy with remarks about the Prophet Muhammad, leading to widespread protests.
