IndiGo introduces daily direct flights between Chennai and Penang

IndiGo Airlines has announced the launch of daily direct flights connecting Chennai and Penang, starting December 21, 2024. This marks Penang as IndiGo’s third direct destination in Malaysia, alongside Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi.

According to the airline, this new route is designed to meet the rising demand for travel between Chennai and Penang, providing a seamless and budget-friendly option for both business and leisure travellers.  The direct service from Chennai to Penang will cut travel time from 7 hours to just 4. Additionally, IndiGo plans to resume flights between Bengaluru and Kuala Lumpur on the same date.

In a statement, the airline highlighted that India is Malaysia’s fifth-largest source of tourists, and the new routes are expected to strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two nations. By reducing travel time between Chennai and Penang from seven hours to just four, the service promises enhanced convenience for travellers. Chennai will also act as a key hub for passengers from cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai travelling to Penang.

Vinay Malhotra, IndiGo’s Head of Global Sales, stated, “With 28 weekly flights from India to Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, and Penang, this expansion reinforces our commitment to connecting established hubs and emerging destinations. It offers greater flexibility and convenience for travellers, whether they are flying for business or leisure.”
