Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for a 2-day visit to Thailand on Thursday morning. Today, he will have a bilateral meeting with Thailand’s PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra. During this time, both countries will discuss trade relations. Paetongtarn (38 years old) is currently the world’s youngest PM.
On the second day of the visit, i.e., tomorrow, PM Modi will participate in the BIMSTEC summit. After this summit, he may also meet with the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, Yunus Khan. Yunus’s chief advisor, Khalilur Rahman, indicated this possibility on Wednesday. This will be the first meeting of the major leaders of both countries after the change of power in Bangladesh last year.
On Thursday, PM Modi may also visit Thailand’s historic Wat Pho temple. Wat Pho temple is located in Bangkok and is famous for its large Reclining Buddha statue. Wat Pho is one of the oldest temples in Thailand. It houses more than 1,000 Buddha images and over 90 stupas.
The agenda for talks between the two countries will include political, economic and commercial, defense, connectivity, and security issues. Additionally, the issue of people being involved in fraudulent activities in Myanmar under the guise of employment will also be raised between the two countries.
