After corona, people are becoming victims of hypertension due to ignoring symptoms like headache, restlessness and chest pain and ignoring blood pressure. The main reasons are changing lifestyle, alcohol consumption, anxiety, mental stress, tobacco consumption and diet.
Every fourth to fifth patient admitted in critical condition to the Medicine Department of SMS Hospital is suffering from hypertension.
According to the National Family Health Survey-5, the prevalence of high blood pressure in the country is about 22.6%, with the rate for men being slightly higher than for women. The prevalence is higher among people in urban areas than in rural areas.
High blood pressure increases with age. Both high and low blood pressure affect the body parts. Normal blood pressure is less than 120/80 mm Hg and high blood pressure is 140/90 mm Hg or more. This includes systolic and diastolic pressure.
