Jiapur, December 01, 2024.
The state Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday approved a host of policies, including the introduction of “Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, 2024”, aimed at preventing attempts of conversion through inducement or deceit.
On becoming a law, courts may declare marriages with the intent of unlawful conversions as invalid. Briefing the media, law minister Jogaram Patel said the bill will be introduced in the next assembly session as there is no specific law in the state at present to stop illegal conversions.
Patel said that after this bill becomes a law, no person or institution will be able to convert a person by using misrepresentation, fraud, force, undue influence, etc.
“If any person or institution does such an act, they will be given severe punishment with 1-10 years of imprisonment. If a person marries with the intention of converting a person against the law, the family court can declare such marriage invalid,” the minister said.
