Winter Superfoods – Cauliflower and Broccoli are a treasure trove of Vitamin C

Today’s food in the ‘Winter Superfood’ series is cauliflower, cabbage and all the vegetables of that food family i.e. cruciferous vegetables.

The most special thing about winter vegetables is that most of them can be eaten raw. Cauliflower and other members of its family, cabbage, broccoli and turnip are also named in this series. All these are called cruciferous vegetables

These are very tasty vegetables. It also dispels people’s misconception that Vitamin C is found only in citrus fruits. Just 100 grams of cabbage provides 80% of the daily requirement of Vitamin C and the same amount of Broccoli provides 148% of Vitamin C.

They contain essential minerals like iron and magnesium. These are low calorie foods and do not contain fat. Also, due to the presence of fiber, they are very helpful in weight management. Eating these keeps blood pressure under control and reduces cholesterol level.

Therefore heart health improves. They contain more than 90% water, so they also help in staying hydrated in cold.
