Ex-RBI Governor appointed as Principal Secretary II to PM Modi

New Delhi, February 22,2025.

The Central Government has appointed former RBI governor Shaktikanta Das as Principal Secretary II to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions notified about the same after securing the approval of the Union Cabinet’s appointment committee regarding Das’s appointment.

The notification mentioned, “His appointment will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

P K Mishra has been the Principal Secretary I to the Prime Minister since September 11, 2019.

While, Das’s term as the RBI governor ended last year. He was at the helm of India’s central bank for a total period of six years. He had taken over the reins in 2018.

Das is a post-graduate from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, and is an IAS officer of the 1980 batch. Until May 2017, he was the Secretary of Economic Affairs.

During his tenure, the former RBI governor oversaw numerous challenges. From soaring inflation to challenges caused by Covid-19 pandemic and resultant global supply chain disruptions, the ace policymaker steered the country through toughest of the times during his tenure.
