A 35-year-old man, who recently gained attention on social media as ‘IIT Baba’, was arrested from a hotel here for possessing of 1.50 grams of marijuana Monday. Police said that since the narcotics quantity in his possession was small, he was released on bail but can be called for interrogation whenever needed.
Identified as Abhay Singh, a resident of Jhajjar in Haryana, the man was streaming live on social media that he would commit suicide, police officials said.
DCP (south) Digant Anand said, “Someone informed the police control room, following which a team from Shipra Path police station reached the spot and took him into custody.”
ACP (Mansarovar) Aditya Karkre said, “We were informed that a man was causing disturbance and threatening to harm himself at Hotel Park Classic near Riddhi Siddhi Chauraha.” A police team, led by Shipra Path SHO Rajendra Godara, reached the hotel, where they found Singh in an intoxicated state. He was still streaming live. “Upon questioning, Singh took out a packet of marijuana from his pocket and admitted to consuming it. He told police he was under the influence and unaware of what he was saying earlier,” Godara said.
Police seized the marijuana on the spot under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Given the small quantity involved, Singh was granted bail after furnishing surety. However, a case was registered against him, and further investigation is underway.
