There is a popular belief that there are 33 crore gods and goddesses in Hinduism, but this is not true. In Hinduism there are not 33 crores but 33 categories i.e. 33 types of gods.
Hindu scriptures mention not 33 crores but 33 crores of gods. Here the word koti does not mean crores but types or categories. The Sanskrit word koti has two meanings – crore and type. This is why people have mistranslated the word and understood that there are 33 crores of gods in Hinduism.
Indra is considered the king of gods, who is the god of clouds, rain and war. Prajapati is considered a form of Brahma, who is the creator of the universe.
In many scriptures, Ashwini Kumars have been included in the 33 crore gods in place of them. Both of them are twin gods and are associated with Ayurveda.
