Serum Institute of India ‘hopeful’ of producing Mpox vaccine

Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of Serum Institute of India , on Tuesday said he is hopeful of a vaccine against the viral infection Mpox (monkeypox) amid a global upsurge of cases. 

The World Health Organisation (WHO) had recently declared the Mpox outbreak as a public health emergency of international concern.

Poonawalla, in a statement said, “In view of the global health emergency declared due to Mpox outbreak, Serum Institute of India is currently working on developing a vaccine for this disease to cater to millions of lives that might be at risk.”
