Kartik Sharma is proving to be the find of the season for Rajasthan. Having graduated from the Under-19 state team to Ranji Trophy last year in November, the 18-year-old made an instant impact on his debut with 113 off 115 balls in the first innings of the match against Uttarakhand. From there he went on to play Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he was the highest run-getter for the state with 201 runs in seven games, scoring at a strike rate of 164.75.
In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, the teenager has played a critical role in Rajasthan’s performance that helped them claim a pre-quarterfinal spot. With two centuries and a fifty to his name, Kartik has so far mustered 348 runs in seven league games at an average of 58.
On Thursday, Rajasthan will be up against Tamil Nadu at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara and all eyes will be on the youngster.
What stands out in Kartik’s game is his ability to deliver in crunch situations. The 90-ball 123 in the first one-dayer against Maharashtra, 52 off 53 against Services where he provided valuable support to his captain Mahipal Lomror who himself scored an unbeaten 108 off 135, and 69-ball 100 versus Railways, are a few recent knocks where Kartik showed what he can bring to the table.
