SC refuses to order re-exam for NEET-UG 2024

New Delhi, July 24, 2024.The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to order a re-test of NEET-UG 2024, stating that data on record is not indicative of a “systemic leak” of the question paper.“At the present stage, there is absence of materials on record to show results of the exam was vitiated or there was a systemic breach in the conduct of the exam,” Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, who was heading the apex court bench also comprising justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, said.“Data on record is not indicative of a systemic leak of the question paper which would indicate a disruption of the sanctity of the exam. Gold prices plunge by 5 pc after duty cut

New Delhi, July 24, 2024.Gold prices plummeted by over five per cent after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a sharp import duty cut in gold and silver prices.At 5 pm, gold prices were down by 5.03 per cent, or Rs 3,657, at Rs 69,061 per 10 grams on the MCX platform amid speculation that gold imports will rise after the duty revision. Silver prices fell by 4.38 per cent to Rs 85,299 per kg after the duty cut.The FM announced a reduction in customs duties on gold and silver to 6 per cent from the current level of 15 per cent and that on platinum to 6.4 per cent from 15.4 per cent. The duty cut is likely to increase gold imports into the country. In FY2023-24, gold import bill was Rs 3.77 lakh crore, leading to the outflow of an equivalent amount in dollars.

New Delhi, July 24, 2024.he rupee depreciated 1 paisa to revisit its all-time closing low of 83.70 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, weighed down by a strong dollar against major crosses overseas amid investors' weak appetite for riskier assets.Forex traders said the increase in capital gains tax and removal of indexation benefits announced in the FY25 Budget on Tuesday was the main reason for dollar buying as foreign investors sold stocks.At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.69 and touched an intra-day high of 83.68 and a low of 83.72 against the dollar during the session.
