According to government data, C-section delivery cases in the country increased from 17.2% to 21.5% between 2016 and 2021. This means that one in every two deliveries in private hospitals in India is happening through C-section.
According to the World Health Organization, C-section is required in only 10%-25% of delivery cases. C-section should not be chosen as an option for delivery without necessity. More than 30% of deliveries in India happen through cesarean procedure every year.
C-section delivery is a surgical procedure in which the baby is removed through an incision in the abdomen and uterus. This procedure is usually needed when normal delivery is not safe or there is a risk of some complications.
