The Election Commission issues notice to Rahul Gandhi for ‘panauti’, pickpocket remarks targeting PM Narendra Modi

Jaipur, November 23, 2023. The Election Commission (EC) issued a show-cause notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday for his "panauti", "pickpocket" and "loan waiver for the super rich" jibes at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and asked him to respond by Saturday. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had approached the poll panel against the former Congress president, saying it was "unbecoming" of a "very senior leader" to use such language. The EC reminded Gandhi that the Model Code of Conduct prohibits leaders from making unverified allegations against political rivals.

Jammu, November 23, 2023. Security forces recovered arms, ammunition and explosives, including nine grenades and an IED, dropped by a drone along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu's Akhnoor sector, police said. It was all packed in a box found during a joint search operation by the police and the Army in Palanwallah near the LoC early morning, officials said. The box raised suspicion and the bomb disposal squad was called. An improvised explosive device (IED), a pistol, two magazines, 38 rounds of ammunition and nine grenades were found, the officials said.

New Delhi, November 22, 2023. India has resumed electronic visa services for Canadian nationals after a nearly two-month pause, sources said on Wednesday. Tensions flared between India and Canada in September following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's allegations of the "potential" involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on June 18 in British Columbia.
