Physical exercise is extremely important for a healthy mind and body. But is there any one exercise that promises spot reduction? While looking for an answer we came across a video by fitness influencer Deepti Dhakar suggesting that there indeed is.
In the video, Dhakar said, “Been doing this for four weeks, and my hanging belly literally reduced by eight inches”, adding that the exercise exclusively targets the belly.
“Start with raising your leg at a lower level and gradually progress and increase to a higher level,” Dhakar wrote in the caption of the video that shows her doing alternate leg raises.
“Spot reduction (losing fat in one specific area through targeted exercises) is largely a myth; instead, a comprehensive approach to weight loss and muscle toning is necessary. Consistency, proper nutrition, and a mix of strength training and cardio exercises are key to seeing significant changes.
According to him, one needs to be calorie deficient (for example, if you eat 2,000 calories per day, you must burn 2200-2500 calories with walking, and exercise) to lose fat. “This exercise is good for your core abdominal muscles and lower belly but overall you can’t lose hanging belly in 4 weeks with just this exercise,” said Dr Kapoor.
