In this disease, the formation of blood cells (RBC, WBC, platelets present in blood) stops in the human body’s bone marrow, which leads to deficiency of blood and platelets in the patient.QuoteImage

Received more than 200 units of blood

  • According to Dr. Vishnu Sharma, while fighting aplastic anemia over the past 6 years, the woman received more than 200 units of blood and over 50 units of platelets.
  • Despite this, the woman’s hemoglobin remained very low and platelet levels never went above 15 thousand. Due to low platelets, the woman had to be hospitalized multiple times because of bleeding problems.

After the woman was admitted to the Hematology Clinical Department unit of SMS, she was first treated with medicines to stabilize her condition. After that, stem cells from her brother’s bone marrow were given to the woman. Then medicines were given to reduce immunity levels in her body. After this process, red blood cells started forming in the woman’s bone marrow. This process is called allogenic transplant.QuoteImage

Costs ₹20 lakh privately, free at SMS

According to doctors, if this procedure is done in a large private hospital, it costs the patient around 15 to 20 lakh rupees. But here the woman’s entire treatment was done free under the Chief Minister Ayushman Arogya Scheme (MAA Scheme).

Blood cancer cured through autologous transplant

After the department’s launch, a young man from Bharatpur with myeloma blood cancer was successfully treated through an autologous transplant.

Doctors extracted stem cells from his blood, gave high-dose chemotherapy to destroy cancer cells and stop bone marrow function, then re-transplanted his stem cells. Within a month, results turned positive and new blood formation began.
