Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma reaffirmed his govt’s commitment to women and child empowerment, directing officials to enhance transparency and efficiency in the functioning of Anganwadi centres across Rajasthan.
Addressing a review meeting of the Women and Child Development department at the CMO on Tuesday, Sharma emphasised the need for long-term strategies to eradicate malnutrition, particularly in tribal areas, while ensuring the continuous improvement of nutrition programmes. Rajasthan has approximately 60,000 anganwadi centres serving women and children.
“Upgrade the facilities in Anganwadi centres and ensure that the benefits of health, nutrition, and empowerment schemes reach every woman, child, and family in the state,” Sharma instructed officials. To bolster accountability, he called for the installation of CCTV cameras and the preparation of an annual calendar for regular inspections.
Reviewing the Shiksha Setu Yojana, Sharma urged officials to recognise and reward individuals and organisations that help reintegrate drop-out girls and women into mainstream education. Under the Kaushal Samarthya Yojana, he directed the department to expand self-employment opportunities for trained youth and establish an effective mechanism for tracking their progress.
Sharma announced the upcoming launch of the Mukhyamantri Amrit Aahar Yojana, a Rs 200 crore initiative aimed at improving child nutrition. “Under this programme, children at Anganwadi centres will receive milk three days a week,” he said, underscoring the govt’s commitment to child welfare.
