Jaipur, August 26,2025.
Hartalika Teej Vrat (26 August) is observed on Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya to seek the blessings of Goddess Parvati. On this day, women observe a waterless fast and offer special prayers to Goddess Parvati to wish for unbroken good fortune, good health of their spouse and a happy married life.
It is believed that Goddess Parvati performed severe penance on Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya to get Lord Shiva as her husband. Pleased with this fast, Lord Shiva appeared before Goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati had asked for a boon from Lord Shiva that he accepts her as his wife. Lord Shiva gave this boon to the Goddess, after which Shiva-Parvati got married.
Along with fasting and worshipping on Hartalika Teej, there is also a tradition of doing charity. Especially, Suhaag items like bangles, bindi, sindoor, saree, jewellery etc. should be donated to needy married women. Also on this day, fruits should be served to other women, little girls should be worshipped and study related items like books, notebooks, pens etc. should be donated to them.
