Falgun Purnima i.e. Holika Dahan is on 13th March. After this, Holi will be played on 14 March. The beliefs of this festival are not only related to Holika-Prahlad but also to the spring season and new harvest.
This festival of colors is a symbol of enthusiasm and joy. At this time, leaves start falling from the trees and new leaves start coming. Nature tells us that when old things end, new things begin.
The belief of Prahlad and Holika is most popular. Prahlad was the son of Hiranyakashyapu, he was a devotee of Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu was very angry at this and wanted to kill Prahlad.
Despite many attempts, Prahlad was saved every time by the grace of Vishnu. Then Hiranyakashipu’s sister Holika sat in the fire with Prahlad.
Holika was blessed with the boon of not getting burnt in the fire, but by the grace of Vishnu, Prahlad was saved and Holika got burnt. This incident is considered to be of Phalgun Purnima. Since then the festival of Holika Dahan started being celebrated.
