India reports 761 COVID-19 cases, 12 new deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi, January 05, 2024.

In the past 24 hours, India has once again logged an increase in COVID cases. As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has logged 761 new cases as of January 5, 2023. Apart from this, 12 deaths have also been reported from across the country.

Of this, Kerala has reported five deaths and Karnataka has reported four deaths. Maharashtra has reported two deaths and one death has been reported in Uttar Pradesh

The number of recoveries is also high with 838 discharges being reported in the past 24 hours. As of January 5, a total of 4,44,78,885 Indians have recovered from COVID. The total cases across the country have increased to 4,50,16,604.

The number of active cases remains high in Kerala and Karnataka, which were the worst-hit by the COVID and JN.1 surge. In Kerala, the active caseload has decreased to 1,249, whereas, Karnataka has recorded 65 new cases, taking the tally to 1,240.

New cases have also been reported in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Assam.
