Jos Buttler has announced his resignation as England’s white-ball captain, bringing an end to a tenure marked by extreme highs and recent lows, including the team’s early exit from the ongoing Champions Trophy.
“It’s the right decision for me, it’s the right decision for the team and hopefully somebody else who can come in and work closely alongside Baz [Brendon McCullum] to take the team back to where it needs to be,” Buttler said in a press conference on Friday (February 28).
The 34-year-old wicketkeeper-batter will lead England for the final time in Saturday’s (March 1) dead rubber against South Africa at Karachi’s National Stadium, drawing curtains on a captaincy stint that began following Eoin Morgan’s retirement.
