Neeraj Chopra javelin event moved from Panchkula to Bengaluru

New Delhi, April 21, 2025.

The inaugural NC Classic, named after India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, will now take place at Bengaluru’s Sree Kanteerava Outdoor Stadium on May 24.

The World Athletics-sanctioned event was originally scheduled for Panchkula’s Tau Devi Lal Stadium.

Star-studded field

The Category A event boasts an impressive international lineup. Grenada’s Anderson Peters, the Paris Olympics bronze medallist and two-time World Champion, leads the visiting contingent.

The field also includes German Olympic champion Thomas Rohler, Kenya’s former World Champion Julius Yego and American Curtis Thompson, who currently tops the 2025 rankings with 87.76m.

Pakistan connection

In a significant development, Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem has received an invitation.

“We have extended invitations to top athletes, including Nadeem,” Chopra confirmed during Monday’s virtual press conference.

“He’s currently discussing participation with his coach, and we will announce the complete roster soon.”
