Jaipur: Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) is gearing up to conduct a mock test next week through tablets over a wi-fi network. This is being done to check if exams can be conducted in “hybrid mode” in areas where exam centres with enough computers or secure LAN network are not available. Officials said this will also help reduce the risk of exam paper leaks.
“At present, we can only conduct exams with up to 20,000 candidates in the computer-based test (CBT) model, through LAN-based computers available in different private institutes. We will holding a mock test next week where the exam will be conducted through tablets over a wi-fi network. We want to check how secure this method is. In CBT, the question paper is shared with a secure server, but in this method, we want to see how secure the network system is,” said Maj Gen Alok Raj, chairperson of RSSB, on Wednesday.
RSSB is inviting ethical hackers from IIT Kanpur, BITS Pilani, and a few other institutes, who will try to hack the system so that security measures can be built accordingly.
“If successful, we can conduct online exams with tablets in various districts, and govt schools can be used instead of private institutions as exam centres. We will be able to increase our reach and candidates will be able to view questions on a tablet while they mark the answer on an OMR sheet,” Raj added.
In the computer-based test (CBT)mode, only one question is visible to the candidate at one time, reducing the chances of a paper leak, said the chairperson.
