Ajmer, November 19, 22024.
The Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation’s hotel Khadim in Ajmer has been renamed ‘Ajaymeru’ by the tourism department, following instructions from state assembly speaker Vasudev Devnani, who is BJP MLA from Ajmer North.
A press statement issued by the district administration on Monday stated, following Devnani’s directive, RTDC managing director Sushma Arora has formally issued the order for remaining the hotel.
The administration claimed the renaming decision aims to reflect Ajmer’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance. Till late Monday night, RTDC website said, hotel Khadim was named after famous Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. The hotel, situated opposite the Collectorate in Ajmer, serves as a prominent lodging choice for tourists, officials and the general public.
The press statement mentioned speaker Devnani emphasised the importance of aligning the hotel’s name with Ajmer’s historical roots. “Historically, Ajmer was known as Ajaymeru during the time of Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan. Ancient Indian texts and history books refer to Ajmer as Ajaymeru. Therefore, to connect easily with every tourist visiting Ajmer, the hotel should be named Ajaymeru,” a press statement quoting Devnani stated.
“According to historians, the name Ajaymeru was derived from Maharaja Ajayraj Chauhan, founder of Ajmer, who established the city in the 7th century. The name Ajaymeru instills a sense of pride among the residents of Ajmer.,” the statement said.
The 45-year-old hotel, managed by RTDC, offers a range of amenities, including accommodation, dining, a bar, and facilities for various events.
