Sensex reclaims 80k mark; Nifty surges over 1 pc after BJP-led Mahayuti’s win in Maharashtra

Mumbai, November 25,2024. Benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty surged more than 1 per cent on Monday, helped by a rally in blue-chip stocks and the BJP pulling off a stunning performance in Maharashtra, winning a record number of seats to propel the party-led ruling Mahayuti alliance to a landslide victory. Extending its previous day's sharp rally, the BSE benchmark Sensex jumped 992.74 points or 1.25 per cent to settle at 80,109.85. During the day, it soared 1,355.97 points or 1.71 per cent to 80,473.08. The NSE Nifty surged 314.65 points or 1.32 per cent to 24,221.90.

Sensex down 1,200 points, Nifty falls 1.77%

New Delhi, July 23, 2024. Domestic stock market indices, the Sensex and the Nifty fell over 1.5 per cent in afternoon trades after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced to hike the securities transaction tax (STT) on futures and options (F&O) segment and long-term capital gains (LTCG) on financial and non-financial assets. The BSE’s 30-share index Sensex dropped over 1,200 points, or 1.6 per cent to a low of 79224.41 during intra day trades and NSE’s Nifty fell 435.09 points, or 1.77 per cent to a day’s low of 24,074.2. However, both the indices recover later. While announcing the Union Budget 2024-25, Sitharaman proposed to increase the STT on futures and options of securities to 0.02 per cent and 0.1 per cent, respectively.

Sensex breaches 78,000 level for 1st time, Nifty settles at new all-time high

New Delhi, June 25, 2024. Benchmark Sensex breached the historic 78,000 level for the first time while Nifty settled at a new record high on Tuesday on buying in blue-chip bank stocks and Reliance Industries amid firm trends in Asian markets. The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 712.44 points or 0.92 per cent to settle at a new closing peak of 78,053.52. During the day, the benchmark soared 823.63 points or 1 per cent to hit a fresh lifetime high of 78,164.71. The Nifty went up by 183.45 points or 0.78 per cent to settle at a record closing peak of 23,721.30. During the day, it climbed 216.3 points or 0.91 per cent to hit a new all-time high of 23,754.15.

Benchmarks Sensex and Nifty snapped their seven-day run in early trade on Thursday amid selling pressure from foreign institutional investors and tracking cues from Asian markets. Analysts said, receding crude oil prices in international markets failed to boost sentiment as investors turned to book profit ahead of RBI's monetary policy decision. The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 211.21 points, or 0.30 per cent, to 69,442.52. The broader index Nifty also declined 58.95 points, or 0.28 per cent to 20,878.75.

Extending its previous day's rally, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 282.88 points or 0.44 per cent to settle at 64,363.78. During the day, it jumped 454.29 points or 0.70 per cent to 64,535.19. The Nifty went up by 97.35 points or 0.51 per cent to 19,230.60.

Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty snapped their three-session losing streak to close nearly 1 per cent higher on Friday, buoyed by gains in HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and Infosys amid a largely firm trend in global markets. After three days of decline, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 480.57 points or 0.74 per cent to settle at 65,721.25. During the day, it jumped 558.59 points or 0.85 per cent to 65,799.27. The NSE Nifty advanced 135.35 points or 0.70 per cent to end at 19,517.
