YouTube has unveiled Premium Lite, a new low-cost subscription plan designed for users who want an ad-free experience without breaking the bank. Currently available in the United States as a pilot, this affordable plan costs $7.99 (around ₹696) per month, making it the cheapest way to watch videos without ads. YouTube has confirmed plans to expand Premium Lite to more regions, including Australia, Germany, and Thailand, in the coming weeks.
While Premium Lite removes most ads, it does come with some trade-offs compared to the full YouTube Premium subscription. What you get: uninterrupted video streaming. What’s missing? No access to YouTube Music, meaning ads will still appear when watching music videos or listening to songs. Additionally, features like background play and offline downloads for music content are not included.
Another important detail—Premium Lite doesn’t block ads everywhere. While it eliminates ads from most videos, users may still see ads on Shorts, music-related content, and in search results.
As YouTube celebrates its 20th anniversary, the platform is evolving to meet different user needs. With 125 million subscribers, including trial users, YouTube aims to broaden its reach with this new budget-friendly option.
For context, YouTube’s full ad-free Premium plan costs $13.99 (₹1218) per month. With Premium Lite, YouTube is offering an affordable alternative for those who simply want an ad-free viewing experience without extra perks.
