New Delhi, August 12, 2025.
On Monday, the Lok Sabha passed two important legislations, the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya hailed it as the biggest reform in Indian sports since independence.
While the bills were being discussed and voted on, the Opposition continued its protest against the voter list amendment (SIR process) and alleged voter fraud in Bihar. Many opposition leaders were not in the House at the time of the vote as they had been detained during a march to the Election Commission’s office.
The National Sports Governance Bill has been in discussion for nearly 50 years. First proposed in 1975, it had never been brought to Parliament due to political reasons. With its passing now, the government aims to bring transparency, accountability, and better governance to India’s sports bodies, a move linked to preparations for India’s bid to host the 2036 Olympics
