Today (30 March) is the first day of the New Year of the Hindi calendar. Chaitra Shukla Pratipada means Navsamvat 2082 and Chaitra Navratri have started from today. Nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped during Chaitra Navratri.
During these days, along with worship, mantra chanting, meditation should also be done. Meditation removes negative thoughts, calms the mind and our mind remains focused on worship and devotion. During Navratri, small girls should be fed. Girls should be covered with a red dupatta.
The time of Navratri is related to the change of seasons. All the four Navratris of the year are celebrated during the transition period of seasons. Transit period means the time when one season ends and the other season comes. The time of Chaitra Navratri is the time when winter ends and summer begins. During the Navratri of Ashwin month, the rainy season ends and the winter season begins. The fasts observed during these Navratris at the time of change of seasons provide religious benefits as well as health benefits.
