Rajasthan Cabinet nod to bill for preventing religious conversions, slew of policies

The state Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday approved a host of policies, including the introduction of "Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, 2024", aimed at preventing attempts of conversion through inducement or deceit.On becoming a law, courts may declare marriages with the intent of unlawful conversions as invalid. Briefing the media, law minister Jogaram Patel said the bill will be introduced in the next assembly session as there is no specific law in the state at present to stop illegal conversions. A 25-year-old man who was declared dead by medicos in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu district regained consciousness moments before his cremation, following which three doctors were suspended.
