SMS hospital officials told to manage queues with tokens

Jaipur, March 25, 2025.

Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital will implement a queue management system at its OPD, which sees over 10,000 patients coming daily for treatment.

After TOI highlighted issues related to the unorganised OPD in a news report on March 20, ‘Poor OPD management at SMS still bane for patients’, secretary (medical education) Ambrish Kumar inspected the facility Monday and issued directions to implement a queue management system.

Kumar held a meeting with SMS Medical College principal Dr Deepak Maheshwari, hospital superintendent Dr Sushil Bhati, and other officials, directing them to take immediate measures for queue management.

SMS Hospital’s OPD block (Dhanvantri block) does not have many chairs, which is a primary requirement for implementing the queue management system, Kumar asked the officials to ensure a sufficient number of chairs where patients could sit and wait for their turn according to their token numbers.

Naresh Goyal, additional director (research and planning), at medical education department, said, “We have already implemented the queue management system in Kanwatia Hospital and Jaipuria Hospital recently.”
