Jaipur, April 18, 2024.Global food and beverage giant Nestle sells baby products with higher sugar content in poorer south Asian (including India), African and Latin American countries as compared to markets in Europe, claims a report by a Swiss NGO, Public Eye and International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN). Diets high in ultra-processed foods raise death risk from chronic lung conditions

Jaipur, April 10, 2024.A diet high in ultra-processed foods could significantly heighten the risk of dying from chronic respiratory diseases, a new research spanning over almost two decades has found.Constituents of these "nutritionally inferior" foods, which are "poor sources of essential nutrients such as antioxidants", contribute to inflammation and worsen lung conditions, the study published in the European Journal of Nutrition said.A diet having more than 40 per cent of ultra-processed foods was found to have a 26 per cent higher risk of death from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a lung disorder which blocks airflow causing difficulty in breathing.

Jaipur, April 05, 2024.The on-year cost of a representative, home-cooked vegetarian thali rose by seven per cent and non-vegetarian thali declined by seven per cent in March 2024, CRISIL MI&A Research said.The cost of the veg thali increased due to a surge of 40 per cent, 36 per cent and 22 per cent on-year in prices of onion, tomato and potato, respectively, due to lower arrivals of onion and potato and low base of last fiscal for tomatoes, Crisil said.Amid lower arrivals, prices of rice (accounting for 13 per cent of the veg thali cost) and pulses (9 per cent) increased 14 per cent and 22 per cent on-year, respectively, it said. The decrease in the cost of the non-veg thali was due to 16 per cent on-year fall in broiler prices on a high base of last fiscal, Crisil said....

New Delhi, February 02, 2024.The Centre on Friday said it will sell 'Bharat Rice' in the retail market at Rs 29 per kg from next week to give relief to the common man and has also directed traders to disclose rice/paddy stock, as part of its efforts to control prices that have risen by around 15 per cent in the last one year.In a press conference, Union Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra exuded confidence that these two measures along with the various restrictions of exports will help in cooling down the prices.Seeking to dispel market rumours, he categorically said the government has no plans to lift restrictions on rice exports any time soon.
