Vidya Balan on nepotism in Hindi film industry: ‘Kissi ki baap ki industry nahi hai’

Mumbai, April 12, 2024.

Vidya Balan and Pratik Gandhi, who are eagerly awaiting the release of their upcoming film Do Aur Do Pyaar, graced the inaugural session.

Vidya and Pratik have carved out successful careers in the film industry despite not having any familial connections in Bollywood. During the interaction, Vidya spoke on the perennial debate surrounding nepotism, expressing her indifference towards it.

Vidya said, “I don’t know how to respond to this question because nepotism or no nepotism I am here. Kissi ki baap ki industry nahi hai, nahi toh har baap ka beta, har baap ki beti successful hote (The film industry doesn’t belong to somebody’s father otherwise all the star kids would be successful).”

She added, “I just feel that I have been a lone ranger. There were instances when I felt like maybe if I had the protection of certain people, people would have been a bit kinder but in terms of opportunities I don’t think anybody has been able to deny me my share. So, I feel it really doesn’t matter.”
